Wisdom Will Show You What To Do

Main Text: James 1:5 (NKJV)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Introduction: When You Don’t Know What to Do

There are moments in life when you’re faced with decisions that shake you—moments when advice fails, friends fall silent, and your heart is overwhelmed. But there is one voice that never fails— *the voice of wisdom from above*.

Wisdom is not just knowing facts; it’s God’s breath in your decisions. It is the divine compass that directs your steps when the road ahead is unclear.

Proverbs 4:7 – “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

1. Wisdom Rescued Joseph from the Pit to the Palace

Scripture: Genesis 41:14–40. Joseph was forgotten in prison, but wisdom found him. When Pharaoh was tormented by a dream, God used Joseph to bring clarity.

Genesis 41:16 – “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

Joseph’s wisdom didn’t just interpret dreams; it saved a nation and established his destiny.

Prophetic Word: You may be in a season of silence, but wisdom will find you and speak where your voice cannot.

Personal Testimony:

Wisdom Opened the Door into the Oil & Gas Industry

At the time I was seeking a job in the oil and gas industry, I couldn’t apply as a graduate trainee because I was over the age limit. I also couldn’t apply for a skilled position because I lacked the required experience. But one day, wisdom broke forth—I received divine insight and knew exactly what to do. That single act of wisdom became my access into the industry. Eventually, I rose to become Head of Sales and Operations, making significant impact. Truly, no one is as stranded as the person who lacks wisdom.

Ecclesiastes 8:1 – “A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the sternness of his face is changed.”

2. Solomon Didn’t Ask for Power—He Asked for Wisdom

Scripture: 1 Kings 3:9–12, 28. In a case with two women and one baby, Solomon asked for a discerning heart. Wisdom revealed what was hidden and brought justice.

1 Kings 3:28 – “And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.”

Wisdom Insight: Sometimes it’s not strength you need—it’s sight. Wisdom sees what others miss.

Proverbs 24:3 – “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established.”

Personal Testimony The Report I never wrote by divine intervention

Many years ago, while serving as the Head of Retail in an oil and gas company, I reported directly to a General Manager of Retail Business who happened to be Indian. Though he held the title, I found myself doing both his job and mine. The workload was overwhelming, but I remained committed and diligent.

One evening, as was often the case, I left the office very late and began the long drive home, covering several kilometers. While still on the road, my phone rang. It was my boss, instructing me to prepare a particular report for him to present the next morning. It was his responsibility, yet he shifted the burden to me once again.

As soon as the call ended, I knew there was no way I could meet the demand. I wouldn’t arrive home until midnight or later, and I had to be up by 4 a.m. to prepare for work. Tired and frustrated, I asked the Holy Spirit, “What should I do?”

He answered clearly: “Call seven couples—husbands and wives—and ask them to pray for you concerning the matter.” I obeyed and reached out to them that same night. Afterward, I went home and slept peacefully, trusting that God would intervene.

To my surprise, the next morning, my boss was nowhere to be found in the office. I waited until 11 a.m. before calling to check on him. He answered in an unusually calm voice and told me he had fallen sick overnight and wouldn’t be coming to the office.

That was how God delivered me from being penalized over a task I didn’t have the strength or time to complete. He showed up mightily, just as I had believed.

Bretheren, indeed, there is a wisdom which no man can gainsay nor resist.

3. Jesus Broke the Trap with Wisdom

*Scripture: John 8:1–11* They brought a woman caught in adultery to trap Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then He said:

John 8:7 – “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

One by one, her accusers left. Wisdom doesn’t just answer—it silences traps.

Lesson: When the enemy wants to disgrace you, wisdom will defend you. When you’re under pressure to react, wisdom teaches you to pause.

Personal Testimony: The Auditor Silenced by Wisdom

One time in my organization, an auditor raised unnecessary issues. He fabricated false claims and presented them as if they were true. As the Head of my department, We had two to three meetings on the same matter, but he wouldn’t stop. One day, while reading the Scriptures, I saw where Jesus healed a leper and instructed him to give an offering according to the law of Moses. I caught light from that Word and gave God an offering to silence the auditor. In the final meeting concerning the issue, the CEO turned to the auditor and said he lacked understanding—meaning he had no sense. That was the end of it. He was silenced for life. He lost his voice. Wisdom showed me what to do.

Proverbs 26:4 – “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.”

4. The Early Church Grew Because of Wisdom

Scripture: Acts 6:1–7 When tension arose between the Hellenists and Hebrews over food, the apostles applied wisdom.

Acts 6:3 – “Seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom.”

The result?

*Acts 6:7 – “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly…”

*Wisdom Truth*: When you choose wisdom over emotion, peace will always win.

*When You Don’t Know What to Do—Ask God*

• James 1:5 – “Ask of God… and it will be given to him.”

• Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the Lord… and He shall direct your paths.”

• Ecclesiastes 10:10 – “Wisdom is profitable to direct.”

*Declaration*: “From today, I receive the Spirit of wisdom. I will not walk in confusion. I will not be stranded. The Lord will show me what to do.”

*Revelation*: Every task void of wisdom shall be hard. No wisdom, no ease. You are a child of covenant. Embrace what makes life productive and fulfilling.

*Isaiah 11:2 – “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding…”

*Closing Charge: You Don’t Need to Have It All Figured Out*

You may not know the way, but *Wisdom will walk you through*.

*Personal Testimony*:

*Fellowship Growth Through a Tutorial Strategy*

When I was in the university, my fellowship started with about five members, and because the mother church wasn’t well-known, growth was difficult. In those days, a Redeemed member would join Redeemed Campus Fellowship, an Anglican would go to the Anglican Student Fellowship, and a Baptist would seek out the Baptist Student Fellowship. No one was willing to attend my fellowship because the name was unfamiliar. One day, wisdom broke forth. I told my team that God had given me an idea: let us target the pre-degree students by organizing tutorials for them. Tutorials weren’t new, but what was unique was the promise that we would provide them with all the past questions since the inception of the pre-degree program. We put up the advert, and on the scheduled day, our fellowship center—which was far from campus—was filled. From that one encounter, no fewer than seventy members were added to us in a single day. We had a successful tutorial and handed over to them past questions as promised and at the end of the pre-degree, one of those we taught scored the highest in the entire university and much later, he became our Academic secretary before i left school and our population had grew! That’s wisdom in action!

No one is truly stranded like he who is wisdom deficit.

The easiest way to keep going in cycle in life without headway is to lack wisdom. The only antidote for foolishness is wisdom. Wisdom speaks! Wisdom directs! Wisdom feeds! Wisdom provides! I shatter all the resources of ignorance in your life in Jesus name.

*Final Admonition:*

*Please be sincere, when last did you ask for wisdom over those concerns. Let me leave you with an important Scripture on the subject matter.*

Isaiah 30:21 – “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’”

Impartation for wisdom:

Deut 34.9 And Joshua, the Son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him.
